Club and organization advisors are the glue that hold everything together. Advisors tend to serve for several years, so they know the history, activities, and projects that the group has undertaken. A lot of advisors store the banners, gavels, gongs, and scrapbooks for the club. They hold on to the files, minutes, budgets, and bylaws. They know the policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines of the school and keep their students on track. These are some of the responsibilities of club and organization advisors, but what else?
There is more that advisors do and their importance to their group cannot be understated. But, how do they learn about their responsibilities, best practices, and ways to help their club/organization succeed? They need to be trained!
This program for advisors will teach them what they need to know. They will learn the responsibilities of their officers, how to work with executive boards, and ways to make an impact. It will answer these questions:
What can advisors do to help the club/organization recruit active members?
How should advisors get members more involved and engaged?
How do coaching techniques help advisors better serve their students?
When do advisors share ideas about service projects, activities, events, etc.?
Best practices for advisors related to working with your executive boards, risk management, continuity. etc.
And more!
This program will meet the needs of your advisors, answer their questions, and
give them a chance to learn from two experienced and successful advisors.
On Friday, October 18, 2024, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm (Eastern), your club and organization advisors can join with advisors from colleges and universities from around the country. You can bring as many advisors and staff as you like and they will get to learn from America's Student Leadership Trainer(sm) Dave Kelly and long-time SUNY-Cobleskill club and SGA advisor Jeff Foote:
Dave has spoken and trained for more than 350 different colleges and universities. He served for 9 years as the District Administrator for the Georgia District of Circle K International, each year working with 20-25 campus advisors for CKI clubs. He is the most honored advisor in the history of CKI. He was also named Campus Speaker of the Year by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) twice (2019, 2022) and as the 2023 Lecturer of the Year by the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities.
Jeff has over 30 years of student leadership advising experience. Much of his career in higher education was spent with student government (24 years) and similar organizations, but he also advised programming boards, club senate, DEI clubs, and a 10-year stint as an advisor to an outdoors club. Regardless of which club Jeff has advised, he approaches the role through the lens of student empowerment and student growth.
Ways to Make this Program Special for Your Advisors
Dave and Jeff will be presenting virtually and your advisors are welcome to join that way. However, you could enhance your advisors' experience by bringing them together to participate with our program in a hybrid way and then spend time sharing information they need that is unique to your campus! You can also give them an opportunity to share ideas, challenges, and ask questions of each other that will help them be the best advisor possible.
"OK, Dave, how would this look?" You could bring the advisors together for lunch or late afternoon snacks either before or after our presentation. Give them an hour to 90 minutes to interact with other advisors, eat, hear from you, and ask their burning questions. This is valuable time for them and it gives them a chance to interact in a way that they don't always get.
"Can we have some advisors participate in a group together on campus and others join virtually?" Absolutely! We want this information to be as accessible as possible. By registering, you will get a recording of Dave and Jeff's portion of the program and, if need be, you can set up your own event at a later date!
Your investment is a total of only $997 for as many advisors and staff as you want to have participate. This is a big savings over bringing in these presenters in-person, which would normally cost more than $3,000 for just one of them!
